   Story Behind

Vijay, also living in the slum settlements of New Sanjay Amar Colony is an 8 year old child of a Gujrati immigrant family of feri-walas who earn their living by selling utensils in exchange for old cloths . His parents also had the same argument for not sending their child to school that they want to send him to a Gujrati school only. They were motivated for education and convinced against their predudice. Vijay was admitted in MCD School, Bhikam Singh Colony through the efforts of our organization. Vijay is now performing well in his class and is showing good results

   Story Behind

Suraj, a 9 year old child living in the slums of New Sanjay Amar Colony is also a bright child. Previously, he was not attending school because he was living with his mother in the village. When he came here and our survey team found him not going to school, it contacted his parents and on their willingness to send him to school, admitted him in MCD School, New Sanjay Amar Colony in class II. Now he is making good progress in studies and has come to class III.

Sagar is a sober and sensitive child living in the slums of New Sanjay Amar Colony. He was not admitted in any school because of parents' ignorance and their insistence of sending him to a Gujrati school only. Through the efforts of our survey team, they got convinced of sending him to a nearby MCD school where he is taking great interest in studies and is showing good results

Kajal is a sober and laborious child living in the slum settlement of Gujrati families. She was not going to school at the time of our survey because parents were not willing to send her to a non-Gujrati school. With the efforts of our staff members in convincing her parents, she was admitted to the nearby MCD school and is making good progress in studies

   Story Behind

A very bright and studious child and a keen learner, Arti is living in the slums settlements of New Sanjay Amar colony. She was not going to school when survey was conducted by our organization reason being the same predudice of parents of teaching their children Gujrati only. She was admitted to MCD school, Bhikam Singh Colony by our staff members after making great efforts in convincing parents about the importance of education. She is now studying in class II and she takes keen interest in studies. She has won wide acclaim from her teachers.

   Story Behind

Asha, a bright child of a rickshaw puller is living in the slums of Arya Nagar near railway crossing and was dropped out because of the parents' shifting to this place from the village of Madhya Pradesh. Meet Asha today and you will meet a girl full of hope and dreams of a better life. In Asha , you will meet a very responsible, matured and sensible girl who will immediately leave an impression on you. It would not have been possible for this child to attend school without our assistance inspite of willingness of parents to send her to school. She was admitted to MCD school, Anand Vihar through great persuation with the school authorities by our staff members and is now attending class III and is a brilliant child who wants to become a doctor.

Chanu: a bright child and the daughter of a factory labour is living in the slums of Dilshad Garden. She was not attending school because of the ignorance, poverty and lack of guidance of parents. They were motivated by our organization to send her to school and through our efforts Chanu was admitted to MCD Primary School, D Block, Dilshad Garden. She is now attending school regularly and is doing quite good in her studies

Saurabh, a 7 year old child living in the slums of New Sanjay Amar Colony was not going to school because of the ignorance of parents and father's not doing any regular work. Through the efforts of our organization he was admitted to the MCD School, Sanjay Amar Colony and is now studying in class II and is doing very well in studies and was given a very positive report by the teacher

Sandhya, a zealous child living in the slum settlements of new Sanjay Amar Colony was dropped out because of the family's shifting to Delhi from a village in UP. Her father is working as labour in a plywood company. With the efforts of the organization, she was admitted in MCD school, Bhikam Singh Colony and takes great interest in studies and is performing exceedingly well.

   Story Behind

Abdul is a very active child also living in the slums of Arya Nagar and brother of Atabul was also engaged in rag-picking business at the time of the survey by the organization and was admitted to school after great persuation of our staff-members. He is brightest among the three brothers going to school and is a Ist position holder in the class. The whole family feels very closely attached to our staff member who was directly dealing with them and shares every problem with her. Watching their children reading books is an altogether different world for them, a world they had never imagined in their remotest dreams.

   Story Behind

Razabul, a calm child living in Arya Nagar slums is another brother of Atabul and Abdul and was also engaged in rag-picking business because of absence of any guidance from the family before being persuaded and motivated for education. He is also attending school regularly and realizes importance of education now. The whole family was the cleanest of the lot in the area when visited. Our staff member who was actively involved with the family and was instrumental in bringing about these changes is a role model for these children

   Story Behind

Atabul is a very sensitive and matured child living in Arya Nagar slums near railway crossing who alongwith three brothers was engaged in rag-picking business and was not going to school when survey was conducted. On enquiry, it was found that the father had deserted the family for another woman and left for Bihar. The elder brother, a rickshaw puller was looking after his younger siblings and mother. The organization contacted the family members and motivated them to send their child to school, who after great persuation by our staff members agreed and through great insistance of our organization, the school authorities admitted him in MCD Primary school, D- Block Anand Vihar . He is now attending school regularly and is studying in class III. He also makes sure to come to attend our workshop at Madhu Vihar every Sunday. Very perceptible changes can be seen in the life of all the members of the family. Atabul is now full of hope, has a zeal of life. He has developed a keen interest in studies and also motivates other children of the surroundings to go to school. His enthusiasm for studies can be felt from the way he shooed away for school when I was at his place to meet him and know about his progress.

Nadeem, a 12 year old child living in the slums of New Sanjay Amar Colony is a fatherless child who is being looked after by his brother. At the time of our survey, he was not going to school because of the loss of his father and inability of the mother to send him to school. Through the efforts of our organization, he was first enrolled in our organization , given some basic education and later was admitted in MCD School, Bhikam Singh Colony. He is a slow learner but through constant efforts by the teacher at our learning centre coupled with the efforts of the school, he was able to get through his exams and is now studying in class IV

Ganga, a calm and quiet Gujrati child of feriwalas living in the slums of Sanjay Amar colony and sister of Bharti has also the same story of not being sent to school because of the parents' predudice of sending their children to a Gujrati school only . They were ignorant of importance of education. She was admitted to nearby MCD School, Sanjay Amar Colony after great efforts of our team members in convincing the parents about the importance of education in a child's life. Now Ganga is regularly going to school and attends our learning centre daily. She has made remarkable improvement in her studies

   Story Behind

Bharti, a bubbly child full of life is living in the Gujrati slum settlements of Sanjay Amar Colony. She was not going to school when survey was conducted for the first time in 2006 because the family is a Gujrati immigrant family and was not interested in sending their children to non-Gujrati school . With great efforts by our field staff they were persuaded to send Bharti to school. Now she is attending school and our learning centre regularly. She takes keen interest in studies and had participated in a dance performance held at Inter NGO competition at Don Bosco. She is doing quite well in her studies as well. Without our assistance, she would not have been able to attend school and would have remained ignorant of the avenues education opens for a child.
