" There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them ". -Dr. Denis Waitley

PARIVARTAN - change of direction

"Primary education for the Children on Street"

Target Population: 3000
Geographical Location:- East , North-East & South Delhi
Age Group: 4 to 12 yrs

Objectives:
  • To promote and provide basic primary education to children and communities who are socially & economically deprived.

  • Early intervention into the life of a street-child by counseling and motivating the child & his parents and guiding them to the path of knowledge.

  • To provide them necessary support and assistance for re-instatement in the mainstream of childhood by placing them in a formal school.

Approach & Strategy:
  • Identification & survey of children on street and motivating them for education.

  • Identification & survey of all Govt. schools in and around the locations in which CCDF is working.

  • Conducting a survey of facilities (both infrastructure & human resource) available in these schools.

  • Sponsoring the child and his parents by providing counseling, motivation & financial support for formal education.

  • Providing them with the admission fee, books & stationery, school uniform and free tuition if needed.

  • Involving teachers with parents and bringing them closer to each other for a joint effort towards overall betterment of the child.

  • Regular following up for the performance of the student and assisting him for continuous improvement.

Achievements:
2007 :
  • Surveyed - 85 crossings (East, North-East & South Delhi)

  • Interviewed - 1211 children

  • Enrolled - 730 children

  • Admitted - 653 children

2008 :
  • Surveyed more than 20 crossings of East and North-East Delhi.

  • Interviewed 262 children on the street who work and earn for many reasons and are not able to go to school.

  • Counseled and motivated their families for formal education and its benefits for the betterment of the children.

  • Admitted 114 children to nearby MCD Primary Schools.

Assessment:
  • This program helped in creating awareness among the under-privileged sections of society about the importance of education in the life of a child.

  • Although it is too early to see much visible impact on the society and the surroundings at large , yet amazing changes are clearly perceptible in the lives of the population we serve and thereby in the lives of the society at large.

  • It was nothing short of a miracle for their parents to see their wards going to school. Their pleasure can be felt through the gleam in their eyes.

  • It was an altogether different world for them - a sea-change from the one they were accustomed to.

  • As per our survey of the children on street apprx. 70% of the children are willing to go the school.

  • 50% parents agree and are willing to send their children to formal school, which could not be done due to lack of awareness, financial condition and other circumstances.

Many of  the children like this need your support. Every penny donated by you helps them survive and regain their childhood and education.

Remember you are creating the future of our nation
